Santo on the Border of Terror  (1969)
For those of you who aren't aware of El Santo, he's basically a masked Mexican wrestler who during the
50s and into the 80s was basically Mexico's superhero! Yes, believe it or not, little Mexican boys and
girls tugged on the pant legs of their parents, begging them to go see the latest Santo epic. However,
while some Santo movies are actually quite entertaining, I doubt many children (or adults for that matter)
enjoyed watching this Santo movie, which, believe it or not, is the worst Santo movie ever!

The film is basically a warning to Mexican refugees who cross the border daily. In fact, it's more of a
scary story for illegal aliens than the usual Santo thriller where he battles against vampire women and
Frankenstein monsters, which was severely disappointing to me. The film deals with two men who want
to cross the border and make money for their family in America. They get caught by the border guard,
and decide to get help from a mysterious man who can promise them not only a safe crossing, but a job
when they get there. One of the men goes to his girlfriend's bar, where she is a singer, and tells her the
happy news. She is excited because her little sister, an adorable little girl, has gone blind and they need
money to operate and restore her vision. On the way home, they are attacked because the girlfriend is
hot, and Santo saves them. They get back to her apartment, and Santo agrees to pay for the operation
because he is a nice guy.

The boyfriend makes it across the next day and starts to work for this man, who is partnering with a
doctor. The men want to discuss their fees, but they are just thrown into the field and forced to plow it for
no reason. We get to know more about the mysterious doctor, and find out that he is cruelly killing and
extracting body parts from the illegals and selling them on the black-market. His body harvesting plans
have allowed him to create two zombie-like thugs to aide him in his goal of making enough money to rule
the world or something like that. However, Santo steps in to check on his friends, and puts a firm foot
stomp to the doctor's evil schemes.

This is the most boring, and uninteresting Santo movie I have ever seen, and I have seen almost all of
them, too! This is basically an exercise in padding. There are two wrestling matches (which is expected
in a Santo movie, although no one turns into a werewolf halfway through) and four musical numbers (all
of them sappy Mexican ballads horribly lip-synced). I was expecting something terrifying (or at least
some hokey horror fodder) with a title like "BORDER OF TERROR", but I think this film should have
been called "EL SANTO AND THE MEXICAN EXODUS", at least then I wouldn't have rented it.
